No.87.
Paper,
MEMORANDUM.
H.B.M. Vice-Consul, Canton,
TO
Assistant Colonial Secretary, Hong Kong,
14th June, 1915,
Activities of German residents in Canton.
413
Assistant Colonial Becretary's Memorandum No.67 of 29th May,
1915.
The Consul-General took a recent opportunity to bring this matter to the notice of the Chiang Chun who promised to make personal inquiries.
The Secretary to the Chiang Chun, writing on June 11th to the Vice-Consul stated that "order has been issued by His Excellency the General to the troops outside the East Gate that no foreigners are to be admitted into the barracks
and that the work on the wireless telegraph will be finished
in about twenty days". As the wireless station in question
was erected by Germans, it is presumed that the last
sentence is intended to convey that certain additional works
or repairs are being carried out by Germana. Further
inquiries will however be made.
(8gd.) R.S. Pratt. Vice-Consul.
